Do The Right Thing

J. Robbins needs your help!!
For those unfamiliar, J. Robbins was in Government Issue, Jawbox, Burning Airlines and Channels and has produced classic/great records by Texas is the Reason, The Promise Ring, Braid, Sleepytime Trio, Engine Down, Jets to Brazil, Jimmy Eat World, etc. etc. etc.J. Robbins son is very sick, and he is just a little baby. I am reposting messages from Rob of 108 and The Fire Still Burns...Of course you should check out those bands but this isnt about good music. This is much more important. Read on. ...

From The Fire Still Burns
Hi friends of J. Robbins, Janet Morgan and Cal Robbins: J. and Janet’s baby boy Cal was born with a serious genetic condition called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Though there is no cure for this condition, there are lots of treatments that promise to give Cal the the best possible quality of life. Unfortunately, many of these, especially the alternative treatments, are not covered by health insurance.J. and Janet have given so much over the years to the music community we're all a part of, so Bill and I are hoping you can see in your hearts to help them out now. We've set up a website with more information and a place to make a donation. All of the money will go straight to J. and Janet to help defray their growing medical bills. Thanks for your support and feel free to send this email on to folks who might likewise be interested in helping. Take care
Kim Coletta and Bill Barbot

From Rob of 108"
J. Robbins, best known for his work in Jawbox, and Janet Morgan, gave birth to a beautiful son Callum Robbins. Callum was recently diagnosed with a genetic motor neuron disease called Type 1 SMA, or Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Simply put SMA kills kids. The disease affects the brain's ability to communicate with the voluntary muscles that are used for activities such as crawling, walking, head and neck control, breathing, and swallowing. Type 1 SMA is usually fatal; most Type 1 babies will die before their second birthday. Those infants who survive into childhood are in for a long road of occupational therapy, wheelchairs, and assistive devices. Despite years of work on its treatment and "ongoing promising research," it has no cure.I have two amazing sons that mean the world to me and I can't even imagine what J. and his family are feeling or going through. In addition to the emotional and physical tolls, the financial aspect to this situation is one that promises to get more difficult. Everyone that knows me knows that I never ask for something unless it is important and this truly is. Punk rock is not a musical genre as much as it is a community and an esteemed member of our community needs our help now.Bill and Kim, the former Jawbox members who also run DeSoto Records, have set up a fund where we can all help. The Callum Robbins Family Fund will help J. and Janet pursue every possible avenue of opportunity to help Cal out and give him the best treatments possible. I'd appeal to all of you to turn your attention to little Cal and to donate anything -- however small or large -- to his treatment fund. For more information about Cal, SMA, The Callum Robbins Family Fund, and to donate something via PayPal, please visit Cal's site here. With Love…R and 108

Here is a link to the Pitchfork Media article. All sites have a link to the paypal account where you can donate money for the cause. I am not much of a philanthropist but a number of factors have led me to donate money. J. Robbins is very important in the underground rock scene, mainly the DC area and the Dischord group. He has produced many great bands, and since I am a father too, I can't imagine what I would do if something happened to my little son, and I can only imagine that is 1% of the feelings J and his wife must be feeling over the condition of their baby .... Donate a few dollars. If not for anything then a way of saying thanks for all the albums you have recently gotten for free.
With my best wishes and love...
Bodo

DAMON EDGE lead vocals, synthesizers, TV, treatments on all instruments, cover art
REMY DEVILLA guitars and overlays
RENAUD THOREZ harmonized bass guitar
PATRICK IMBERT electronic drums and rotos
FABIENNE SHINE backing vocals

All songs written and produced by Damon Edge Except Trip the Switch, written by Damon Edge and Remy Devilla

Damon was bored of the U.S.A. He wanted change and he find it when moving to France with his wife Fabienne, of the Shakin Street fame. Trivia: The Dictators and later on Manowar guitarist Ross the Boss was their axeman!

bringing with him the Chrome entity. Helios is left in San Francisco, where he will start a solo career. The first recording of the "new" Chrome can be heard on the terrific Into The Eyes Of The Zombie King. Instrumentation and song structures became much simpler than before, giving a "purity" quality to Damon's music. Guitars are now played by french musician Remy Devilla, becoming the necessary second-half that Chrome needs. One must admit that the guitar work is amazingly basic, but that seems to fall into Damon's new vision of Chrome. They punctuates ice-rock anthems as Trip The Switch and You Can't Do Anything, while Damon brings synthesizers upfront on robotic songs as And Then The Red Sun or Humans In The Rain, where his voice gives claustrophobic tones. This is the beginning of a new era marked by coldness and catchiness.

There are many of those who question the quality of Damon Edge's Chrome. This is only to prove them wrong. Anything bearing the name Chrome is good, even the 1977 debut which is completely aside from the rest of their discography and is more Hawkwind than anything else.

Voice of Chunk

The best jazz album I own. Tarantella is truly a great song, Voice of Chunk a true masterpiece.

HR - Human Rights

Volim čovjeka ali ostaviti ONO da bi se radilo OVO, a jebiga sad eeeeeej!

Those who want nothing more than Rasta-metal screech coming from the throat of Bad Brains should pass on this solo disc. Those who skanked to the reggaefied groove of H.R.'s (aka Joseph 1, Paul Hudson) so-so earlier discs on Olive Tree should like this tons...Rather than go for a standard roots/dancehall style, the accent is on a harder, Parliament-style proto-gogo with touches of soul and jazz. Granted, it lacks the insane intensity of The Brains' work, but it succeeds on subtler levels. Lyrically, there are no surprises -- plenty of peace and love vibes and rote Jah worship, but the band (Brains' Earl Hudson, drums; Kenny Dread, bass; David Byers, guitar; and Oscar Brown, Jr., keys) is tight without being tightassed, and give more than adequate support to H.R.'s croon-to-whine vocals... ~ John Dougan, Option s2_88, All Music Guide

Sandoz - Every Man Got Dreaming

Cabs were not as good in their house Detroit style phase, but switching onto rave techno made them exceptional once again. Sandoz is Richard H. Kirk at techno maximum. Better by far than your average crappy famous DJ.
Listen to this. This is the real stuff.

Glenn Branca

This is a collection of Branca's work. 7 STUNNING TRACKS FROM SYMPHONIES 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 10. Serves well as an introduction. Try it.

Nag Nag Nag

Nag nag nag is the punkiest tune Cabaret Voltaire ever recorded and is one of their finest. Since I'm a huge fan I will try and post some rare stuff I have such as some early 7˝ singles, some Richard H. Kirk 12˝ rarities, Chris Watson solo work etc.
This is an anniversary single edition with some nice remixes especially Akufen remix which is my
favourite

Rare Mark Stewart - Dream Kitchen ep

Promo singles: Mark Stewart - 'Dream Kitchen'Mute Records / June 199612": 12MUTE 130 / CDS: CDMUTE 130

2. Crawl Space
3. + Simulacra (Clone 1)
CDS:
1. * Dream Kitchen
2. Crawl Space
3. + Forbidden Love (Dub)
* From Data Control.+ Remixed from Data Control.

The lead track "Dream Kitchen" is almost poppy, but the "You love objects..." refrain gives the game away - a glossy critique of commodity fetishism. Elsewhere the influence of UK soundsystems remains, with dubbed out vocals and synthesised horns. Crawl Space is more hard rocking than your average Mark Stewart, with a tad more raw sound than one would expect.

Crime and the City Sollution

Despite roots dating back as far as 1978, Crime & the City Solution did not truly emerge until 1984, coming to life in the wake of the dissolution of the seminal Birthday Party. The group was led by the evocative singer/songwriter Simon Bonney, a Melbourne, Australia native who led a series of bands under the verbose Crime name throughout the late '70s and early '80s; a longtime friend of the Birthday Party, he contacted former members Mick Harvey and Rowland S. Howard after the group's breakup, and following the addition of Howard's bassist brother Harry, the most successful and famed lineup of Crime & the City Solution was born.

There are many similarities between Crime & the City Solution and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds other that both are damn good. If you newer listened to each maybe, just maybe, you couldn't tell which is which. But this is only at first sight, since they pretty much differ when you really start listening, and what a rewarding listen. Bride ship is my favorite, but I can tell you it is not everybody's. It all depends which album was it that got you into the band at first place. This one has a more flowing feel and it feels alright for me.
